Sophie is 14 years old and has been playing club and school soccer for the last seven years and school futsal for the last four years. When Sophie first started playing soccer she was 7 years old and was the only girl on the team. She didn't let that stop her and her passion for soccer and futsal has continued to grow over the years.
Sophie has played in both sports for interschool sport and school-based competitions such as the ISSA Cup Challenge, Champion of Champions and the Bill Turner Trophy. In 2017, she was on the STAC school team that competed in the AFA National Interschool Futsal Championships. It was the school's debut at the competition and Sophie's team won in their age group. In 2018, Sophie competed in the same tournament and her team came runners up.
This year Sophie has been busy and she has played in the Champion of Champions futsal tournament, was selected as an U14 Queensland rep for the AFA National School Futsal championships. Her team came 4th place overall losing the semi-final by 1 goal. Unfortunately, Soph injured her ankle about 10 minutes into the first half and was carried off the court. It was a heart-breaking end to the tour which had been very personally successful for Sophie - making five strikes (goals). The following day, we received an email to say that she had been selected for the U15 2020 Australian Girls futsal team to compete in Brazil. What an emotional 24 hours it was!!!
Her passion for the game is so strong that she has begun coaching the younger girls futsal teams at her school. She relishes the opportunity to work with younger girls and, after forming a positive relationship with her Nationals Qld City coach, has a keen interest in pursuing coaching beyond school.
We would love for her to have the opportunity to represent Australia in the sport that she loves and, because we don't know if she will have this opportunity again, are determined to do what we can to make sure she goes. Will you please help us??
The cost for her to join the Australian team is quite high, however it includes 14 nights accommodation, return airfares and taxes, transfer, most meals, travel insurance, sightseeing and activities, training and games costs throughout the tour, her Australian representative gear including playing kit, tracksuit and more as well as administration costs. The cost for supporters including parents is additional. I'm sure you'll agree the tour costs are significant and to make sure that we reach our target in time, we are starting to fund-raise and generate awareness about Sophie's selection now.
Please help Sophie to achieve her dream of wearing the green and gold and make a tax deductible donation today. Finally, we also ask that you please share Sophie's story throughout your networks.
Thank you so much for your generosity!
Congratulations on such a brilliant achievement!
Good Luck Sophie
What an achievement, Sophie! Your family, friend and AUSTRALIA are so proud of you!
